The Sri Lanka Association of Airline Representatives (SLAAR) gathered its membership, past presidents and industry friends at the elegant surrounds of The Kingsbury, Colombo, for its 33rd Annual General Meeting on June 17, a milestone occasion that reflected both the Association’s enduring legacy and its forward-looking agenda for Sri Lanka’s aviation sector.
The evening was elevated by the presence of Captain Daminda Rambukwella, Director General of Civil Aviation at the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL), who attended as Chief Guest. Capt. Rambukwella’s address resonated strongly with those present, as he reinforced the critical importance of industry-regulator collaboration and expressed confidence in Sri Lanka’s potential to emerge as a truly competitive aviation hub within the region.
A highlight of the AGM was the address by newly appointed Chairperson Sudeshinie Jayawardena, who brought a sense of renewed energy and purpose to the occasion. Speaking to her membership, she called for unity and a shared commitment to the industry, acknowledging the collective responsibility that SLAAR’s members hold in shaping the future of aviation in Sri Lanka.
Since its founding in 1993, SLAAR has grown considerably in both scope and influence. What began as a body representing offline airline representatives has evolved into a dynamic association that today also encompasses online General Sales Agents and cargo representation, a testament to the Association’s ability to adapt alongside an ever-changing global aviation landscape.
With active engagement across regulatory and industry channels, SLAAR continues to champion the interests of its members through advocacy, operational dialogue and meaningful partnerships all in service of a more efficient, sustainable and growth-oriented aviation sector for Sri Lanka.
