Two of Sri Lanka’s most recognised properties on the North Western coastline – Goldi Sands Hotel, Negombo and Suriya Resort, Waikkal – have embarked on a new phase of growth with the establishment of their first head office in Colombo and the appointment of industry veteran Bazeer Uvais as Director Sales & Marketing.
A household name on the Negombo beach stretch, Goldi Sands Hotel has welcomed guests for over 50 years, making it one of the region’s oldest and most established 4-star properties. Conveniently located just 15 minutes from Bandaranaike International Airport and 32km from Colombo, the hotel today offers 131 rooms, two swimming pools, a wellness centre, and strong MICE facilities with two conference halls.
Meanwhile, Suriya Resort Waikkal, which commenced operations in 2014, has quickly grown into a sought-after destination for both local and international travellers. Set on a picturesque peninsula between the Indian Ocean and the Ging Oya river, the property features 42 deluxe rooms, 12 suites, and 5 private water chalets, complemented by extensive leisure and MICE facilities that have made it a popular choice for weddings and events.
Both properties are family owned and managed, with their continued success driven by the vision of Chairman Eric Suriyasena – celebrated artist, entrepreneur, and pioneer of batik art in Sri Lanka – supported by his sons, Directors Nilan and Ninesh Suriyasena, and Goldi Sands Managing Director Suresh Weerasuriya. The new Colombo head office, located next to the recently opened Eric Suriyasena Showroom & Art Gallery at Laurie’s Road, Colombo 04, marks a further step in consolidating operations.
To spearhead their next stage of growth, the Group has appointed Bazeer Uvais as Director Sales & Marketing. With over 40 years in the hospitality sector – including 30 years in sales and marketing, tour operator contracting, and F&B operations – Uvais is widely respected as a change maker in Sri Lanka’s leisure industry. He brings with him a proven track record of building brands, strengthening global tour operator partnerships, and successfully navigating challenging market conditions.
Under his leadership, both Goldi Sands Hotel and Suriya Resort aim to further broaden their sales and marketing scope, strengthen their positioning, and enhance visibility in key markets.
