Galle Face Hotel invites guests on a culinary journey through the rich traditions and distinctive flavours of Sri Lanka’s Malay community with A Taste of Malay Ceylon, a special three-day food festival taking place from 23 to 25 October 2026 at the hotel’s iconic Verandah restaurant. 

Presented in collaboration with renowned culinary personality Ruzaina Hadgie, the festival celebrates the unique culinary heritage of Sri Lankan Malays, whose recipes, spices and cooking traditions have been lovingly preserved and passed down through generations. 

Rooted in centuries of cultural exchange, Sri Lankan Malay cuisine tells a fascinating story of migration, adaptation and belonging. Influenced by Southeast Asian culinary traditions and enriched by local Sri Lankan ingredients, it brings together aromatic spices, distinctive cooking techniques and recipes that have become an integral part of the island’s diverse food culture. 

Through A Taste of Malay Ceylon, guests will have the opportunity to discover this culinary legacy, experiencing a selection of traditional Malay dishes that reflect the authenticity, warmth and character of a cuisine deeply connected to family and community. 

Ruzaina Hadgie, known for her dedication to preserving and sharing traditional Malay recipes, brings her culinary expertise and passion for heritage cooking to this special collaboration. Together with the culinary team at Galle Face Hotel, she will present an experience that honours the origins of these cherished dishes while introducing their distinctive flavours to a wider audience.
