Profitroom Partnership Powers 25% Direct Booking Growth for Sri Lanka’s Thema Collection

Newly released case study and partnership video, viewed over 101,000 times on YouTube in three weeks chart the Sri Lankan hotel group’s digital transformation across its sixteen theme-led properties.

Thema Collection, the Sri Lankan hotel group renowned for its sixteen distinct, theme-led properties, has recorded a 25% increase in direct website bookings and a 35% rise in international presence since partnering with global hospitality technology provider Profitroom, according to a case study published recently.

Built on the philosophy that no two properties should share the same identity, Thema Collection had faced a commercial challenge familiar to many independent hotel groups: heavy reliance on online travel agencies, no unified view of performance across the portfolio, and booking technology unable to sell the packages and curated experiences at the heart of the brand.

The group deployed Profitroom’s group booking engine together with the platform’s packages, loyalty, CRM and marketing automation tools creating a single connected commercial system while preserving each property’s individual character.

The results span the portfolio. Direct bookings driven by promotional campaigns have grown 35%, previously underperforming markets such as the United States and Australia have grown 30–40%, and off-season international booking volume is up 33% year on year, with the foreign share of off-season guests rising from 16% to 22%.

Individual properties have posted standout gains. Amba Yaalu Kandalama, a fully renewable-powered hotel and the first in the group run entirely by women recorded the fastest growth in the portfolio, with direct bookings up 86% year on year. Aliya Resort & Spa in Sigiriya grew direct revenue by 108%, while Maalu Maalu Resort & Spa in Pasikuda achieved the group’s highest repeat guest rate.

Chirath Fernando, Manager of E-Commerce at Thema Collection, said the group is proudest of its 25% direct booking growth, noting it has reached markets it once thought out of reach.

Marisa Nolan, Regional Director APAC at Profitroom, who has led the partnership from the outset, said the group’s strong brand built on sustainability and experiential travel made it an ideal fit for the platform.

A video telling the story of the partnership, featuring Thema Collection Founder and Chairman Chandra Wickramasinghe alongside the Profitroom team, has drawn more than 101,000 views on YouTube within three weeks of release.

Looking ahead, Thema Collection plans to expand into still-undiscovered destinations such as Kalpitiya, Tangalle and the far side of Yala over the next five years, while holding its footprint at around 352 rooms, extending experiences rather than scale.
