Tourism Excellence Awards 2026 Set to Crown the Island’s Finest

A landmark national initiative launches to celebrate world-class hospitality, spark innovation, and power Sri Lanka’s rise as a leading global destination — culminating in a glittering Awards Gala in January 2027.

Sri Lanka’s tourism and hospitality industry has long been one of the nation’s greatest strengths — renowned for its warm hospitality, rich cultural heritage, and breathtaking natural beauty, sustained by thousands of professionals and enterprises who create memorable experiences for visitors from around the globe. As the industry enters a new era of growth and global competitiveness, recognising excellence has never mattered more.

It is in this spirit that the Sri Lanka Tourism Excellence Awards 2026 has been launched — a prestigious national initiative celebrating outstanding achievement across the tourism and hospitality sector and inspiring organisations to pursue ever-higher standards.

The Awards will honour exemplary performers among hotels, restaurants, tourism marketers, and hospitality service providers who have demonstrated exceptional achievement in service excellence, customer experience, product quality, innovation, sustainability, operational excellence, and leadership. More than an awards programme, the initiative is a national movement designed to promote a culture of excellence and strengthen Sri Lanka’s position as a world-class tourism destination.

A Rigorous, World-Class Evaluation Framework

Developed on internationally accepted best practices, the evaluation framework assesses participating organisations across key dimensions:

  • Service Excellence
  • Customer Experience
  • Product Quality
  • Innovation, Distinctiveness and Global Reach
  • Sustainability and Responsible Practices
  • Consistency, Operational Excellence and Performance
  • Leadership and Industry Impact

These criteria reflect the qualities that define world-class tourism enterprises and provide a robust framework for measuring excellence in a fair, transparent, and objective manner.

Governance Built on Integrity

To ensure the highest standards of credibility and independence, the Awards are governed through a three-tier structure:

  • An Advisory Committee, responsible for overall administration, governance, and strategic oversight;
  • A Technical Committee, entrusted with developing the awards framework, evaluation criteria, and assessment methodologies, and conducting the technical evaluation; and
  • An independent Panel of Judges, whose eminent members will make the final decisions based solely on the evidence presented and scores obtained through the rigorous assessment process.

This structure has been designed to uphold transparency, impartiality, and integrity at every stage of the competition.

Why It Matters

For participants, the Awards offer a valuable opportunity to benchmark against national standards, showcase achievements, strengthen brand reputation, and gain recognition among industry peers, customers, policymakers, and the wider public. The programme is expected to foster healthy competition, drive continuous improvement, and embed sustainability as a core business principle across the industry.

At a national level, the Awards are expected to contribute meaningfully to the economy — lifting quality across the tourism value chain, promoting responsible tourism practices, enhancing visitor satisfaction, and strengthening Sri Lanka’s global tourism brand.

The Grand Finale: Awards Gala, January 2027

The Awards Gala, scheduled for January 2027, is set to be one of the most prestigious tourism events of the year, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, business executives, sponsors, media representatives, and distinguished guests to celebrate the achievements of Sri Lanka’s finest tourism enterprises.

As Sri Lanka continues its journey towards becoming one of the world’s most admired destinations, the Sri Lanka Tourism Excellence Awards 2026 stands as a beacon of aspiration — recognising those who lead by example, inspiring innovation, and shaping a stronger, more vibrant future for the nation’s tourism and hospitality industry.
