Cinnamon Grand Colombo is reviving one of the capital’s most fondly remembered dining concepts, bringing back Chutneys for a four-night culinary showcase at the hotel’s Courtyard restaurant from 20 to 23 August 2026.
Chutneys was for years a defining South Indian dining destination within Cinnamon Grand Colombo, known for its Paper Dosai, spice-forward curries and warm, familiar hospitality. Although the restaurant has since closed, guest demand for its signature dishes has remained strong — prompting the hotel to bring the concept back, if only for a limited run.
Titled ‘Come Back for the Chutneys’, the pop-up dining experience revives the restaurant’s most requested dishes, prepared to their original recipes. The line-up includes the iconic Paper Dosai, the rich and spice-laden Mutton Mangala, the well-loved Kori Garlic Thalna, a Rice Thali layered with familiar South Indian flavours, and the aromatic Kozhi Biriyani — dishes that longtime patrons will instantly recognise.
The initiative reflects a broader trend among Colombo’s leading hotels: reviving nostalgic, guest-favourite dining concepts as a way of deepening loyalty and drawing both returning regulars and first-time diners curious to experience a piece of the city’s culinary history.
For guests who once had their regular order at Chutneys, this is a chance to taste it again. For those discovering the restaurant’s flavours for the first time, it offers a window into one of Cinnamon Grand Colombo’s most memorable dining stories.
