Pasikuda’s coastline, known for its calm waters and untouched beauty, welcomed a refreshing new addition with the launch of Bello Beach Bar at The Calm Resort & Spa, a property under Browns Hotels & Resorts. Bello introduces a new layer of coastal sophistication to the region, blending flavour, design, and Sri Lankan spirit into a one-of-a-kind experience.
The name Bello comes from the Sinhalese word for conch those beautiful sea shells you often see along the beaches of Pasikuda. Bello is a space designed to echo the essence of the East Coast in every detail, from its architecture to its menu. The structure, inspired by the natural spiral of a conch shell, features a palm-thatched roof, driftwood elements, and a completely open layout that lets the sea breeze do the talking.
The opening was led by Sujeewa Basnayake, General Manager of The Calm Resort & Spa, who was joined by Baba Carrim, Head of Business Excellence at Browns Hotels & Resorts, and Pahan Wijendran, Cluster Beverage Manager, who conceptualised and curated the vibrant cocktail menu that has already become the talk of the town. The event brought together local government officials, tourism representatives, General Managers of neighbouring hotels, both local and foreign guests, and digital nomads, uniting the hospitality community in support of Pasikuda’s growing role as a travel destination.
“The launch of Bello marks an important milestone in Browns Hotels & Resorts’ continued investment in experiential hospitality and regional destination development. As travel interest in the East Coast continues to rise, concepts like Bello play a vital role in redefining what Sri Lanka’s beach destinations can offer — moving beyond traditional sun-and-sand holidays to deliver curated, character-rich experiences that leave a lasting impression,” said Sujeewa Basnayake, General Manager at The Calm Resort & Spa.
The drink experience at Bello is built around local ingredients and Sri Lankan spirits, with a beverage menu that celebrates bold, unexpected combinations. Signature cocktails like Old Ceylon, made with kalu dodol–infused arrack, and Nai Miris Mischief, featuring syrup from the island’s famed green chilli, reflect a fearless approach to flavour.
The culinary offering is equally compelling, featuring seafood grills, fresh oysters, flatbread pizzas, nachos, wraps, and gourmet burgers — all designed to complement the tropical drinks and the relaxed seaside atmosphere. Guests can look forward to live acoustic sessions, island-inspired DJ sets, and themed beachside evenings that bring the coastline to life.
Now open to both in-house guests and walk-in visitors, Bello Beach Bar is ready to welcome travellers with open skies, open arms, and an open view of the sea — offering an experience that’s distinctly Pasikuda, beautifully bold, and perfectly relaxed.
