BOC Travels (Pvt) Ltd has announced the appointment of R. M. P. (Priyantha) Rathnayake as its new Chairman. Rathnayake, who currently serves on the Board of the Bank of Ceylon (BOC) as a Director, brings over 25 years of senior leadership experience in finance, governance, and public administration.
A former Deputy Secretary to the Treasury, Rathnayake has played a pivotal role in shaping Sri Lanka’s economic and financial policies. His expertise spans multilateral and bilateral development banking, foreign funding mobilization for national projects, and fostering strong partnerships with international development institutions.
Rathnayake has held several key leadership roles, including Chairman of the National Savings Bank, Chairman of the National Credit Guarantee Institution, Acting Chairman of Colombo Lotus Tower Management Company, and Director of People’s Bank.
Internationally, he represented Sri Lanka as a Director of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), contributing to strategy, policy, and governance.
His governance expertise also extends to the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka, the Civil Aviation Authority, the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management, the National Medicinal Drug Regulatory Authority, and the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation, among others.
At the Bank of Ceylon, he chaired the Integrated Risk Management Committee, driving effective risk strategies to strengthen institutional resilience.
With his strong academic background—holding an MSc in Agriculture from the Agricultural University of Norway and a BSc in Agricultural Economics from the University of Peradeniya Rathnayake combines technical expertise with proven leadership.
As Chairman of BOC Travels, Rathnayake is expected to provide strategic direction to position the company for growth and innovation within Sri Lanka’s travel and tourism sector.
